No Security for Iraqi Women

Related to the previous post about the plight Sayed Pervez Kambaksh comes a report from CNN.com.

Violations of 'Islamic teachings' take deadly toll on Iraqi women

In Basra, Iraq's second largest city, last year alone there were 79 women killed for violation of "Islamic teachings" and 47 for so-called honor killings.

Unfortunately this seems to be as a result of troops, in this case British, pulling out of the country, leaving the Iraqi Security Force to maintain order. Gen. Abdul Jalil Khalaf claims that "tracking the perpetrators of these crimes is nearly impossible ...adding that he doesn't have control of the thousands of policemen and officers."
